LOS ANGELES - The sequels to "Fifty Shades of Grey" -- "Fifty Shades Darker" and "Fifty Shades Freed" -- will be released Feb. 10, 2017, and Feb. 9, 2018, respectively, it was announced at CinemaCon on Thursday.

After the big box office success of the first film, which has grossed more than $500 million worldwide since its release in February, it looks like Universal is sticking with the Valentine's Day draw.

"We're making this a Valentine's Day event," said Universal Pictures chair Donna Langley at CinemaCon.

It was revealed earlier this week that Niall Leonard, husband of "Fifty Shades" author E.L. James, will write the screenplay for "Fifty Shades Darker." Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson are still attached to reprise their lead roles, with Dana Brunetti and Michael De Luca producing.

Universal has yet to find a replacement for Sam Taylor-Johnson, who directed "Fifty Shades of Grey" and announced last month that she won't be returning.

No release date or production start date has been set yet, but sources say that production on "Darker" should begin within the first quarter of 2016.
