Fargo -- An ice cream parlor in south Fargo has changed hands and its name.

Scoops Plus now occupies the space that had been home to Ice Cream Plus at 1503 S. University Drive.

The new owner is Brad Baumgartner.

Prior to opening Scoops Plus, Baumgartner operated a smoothie business out of a food trailer he would set up at street fairs and other festivals.

In addition to serving Blue Bunny ice cream, Scoops Plus also serves smoothies and other food items such as hot dogs.

Business hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, but the store will begin staying open until 10 p.m. after Memorial Day, Baumgartner said.

JL Beers in Twin Cities

JL Beers of America, which calls Fargo home, is opening its first franchise location.

The new store will open Wednesday at 24 University Ave. NE in Minneapolis.

The restaurant is going into a building that was once home to the Minneapolis Fire Department repair shop.

Additional JL Beers stores are planned for the Twin Cities metro area and one is expected to open in Minot, N.D., in late summer or early fall.

JL Beers opened its first store in November 2009 in Fargo.

It now has stores in downtown and south Fargo, West Fargo, Bismarck and Grand Forks, as well as in Moorhead and Sioux Falls, S.D.

A second Sioux Falls location is planned for fall 2014.

Broadway Shoe Co.

Downtown Fargo is getting a new shoe store.

Broadway Shoe Co. is scheduled to open in June at 102 Broadway.

The store will cater to men, women and kids and offer brands from Johnston & Murphy and Cole Haan to Allen Edmonds and Donald J. Pliner.

Store owners are Nicole Gruchow and Brittany Beauchene.

Gruchow and Beauchene are also business partners in Your Day by Nicole, a bridal store that is also located at 102 Broadway.

Clinic opens Fargo site

Family Institute PC, which offers counseling and psychological testing services for children, adults, couples and families, has opened a location at 4955 17th Ave. S. in Fargo.

Family Institute PC has been providing mental health services in Grand Forks since 1968.

The Fargo site opened April 1.

New Hannaher's

Hannaher's, a Fargo-based office furniture dealer, is opening a location in Detroit Lakes, Minn.

The store is set to open May 1 at 920 Washington Ave. It will be over the space formerly occupied by Lakes Mortgage Group.

Peggy Akers will be the store manager.

Paul Hannaher, president of Hannaher's, said the new location will allow the company to better serve customers and showcase products to the region.
