The photo, at right, of Jimmy Wells' Dakota Roundup Band, out of Aberdeen, S.D., which played in the Fargo-Moorhead area in the 1940s and 1950s, ran in Neighbors recently.
It turns out that the steel guitar player in the band is still with us.
His name is Maynard Laskowski, he lives in Maple Grove, Minn., and he's 81.
Information about Maynard comes from his son, Bob Laskowski, of Foreston, Minn.
His dad, Bob writes, went by the name of Pee Wee Maynard when he was performing.

In addition to playing in Wells' band, Maynard played for such big names as Roy Clark, Dave Dudley and Rex Allen.
Bob found a recording on YouTube that Maynard made with Dudley. It had two songs, "Cry Baby" and "Careless Fool."
Finding it meant much to Bob. After all, he says of his father, "I am so proud of him, not just because of his past but also because he is a wonderful man and dad."
And apparently he was a guy who could really play that steel guitar.
