FARGO — Josh Duhamel may be best known for his silver screen roles in movies such as Transformers, but the North Dakota-born actor has taken on the lead role in The Callisto Protocol , a new video game released Friday, Dec. 2.

Set in the year 2320, Duhamel lends his face and voice to the main character Jacob Lee. According to the game’s website , Lee is “a victim of fate thrown into Black Iron Prison, a maximum-security penitentiary located on Jupiter's moon, Callisto.”

Players take on the job of helping Lee escape the Black Iron Prison, fighting through inmates-turned-monsters “while uncovering the dark and disturbing secrets buried beneath the surface of Callisto,” the website explained.

The survival game requires players to use both shooting and close combat to battle creatures and collect new weapons, gear and skills, the website continued.

The Callisto Protocol is the creation of Striking Distance Studios and Krafton. Glen Schofield is the executive producer and game director of The Callisto Protocol. Schofield is known for creating the Dead Space series, serving as the executive producer of From Russia with Love and directing several entries to the Call of Duty series.

Portraying Jacob Lee is not Duhamel’s first role in the world of video games. According to IMDB , he had previous voice acting roles in Skylanders: SuperChargers and the Schofield-directed Call of Duty: WWII.

Duhamel also appeared in a live-action trailer for the video game.

Metacritic, a site which tracks video game reviews and offers a combined “Metascore” gave The Callisto Protocol a score of 74 out of 100 based on 50 critic reviews.

Several critics likened The Callisto Protocol to Schofield’s Dead Space series, a remake of which is scheduled for release January 27, 2023 from Electronic Arts. For example, IGN described the game as “a satisfyingly gory spiritual successor to the Dead Space series, but it’s ultimately more of a striking modern mimic than a scary new mutation.”

The standard edition of The Callisto Protocol retails for $59.99 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The price increases to $69.99 on the next-generation PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The digital deluxe edition, featuring additional content and the game’s season pass, is available for $79.99 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One or $89.99 on the next-generation consoles.

So here I am, wondering how I can cover an event like a celebrity wedding reception to which I haven’t been invited. I don’t know if my iPhone 8s and constant look of embarrassment have qualified me as seasoned paparazzi. The only time I have been more mortified was when my editor sent me to knock on the Insane Clown Posse’s bus to see if they would be up for an interview. (They were not.)
Josh Duhamel, actor and North Dakota tourism spokesperson, was on the Late Late Show with James Corden recently and talked about his Fargo wedding and how a party bus mishap the night before had him in pain on his big day.
The magazine reported that Duhamel landed in a local emergency room the morning of the Saturday, Sept. 10, ceremony in Fargo after straining his back while dancing the night before.
As North Dakota native and actor Josh Duhamel gets ready to marry Fargo native and former Miss World America Audra Mari, he stops by the Jimmy Kimmel show to talk about his upcoming nuptials and movie.
With the nuptials of North Dakota's most popular couple, Josh Duhamel and Audra Mari, in sight, we think they deserve a mashup name in the spirit of Hollywood couples like Bennifer and Jayoncé. Duhamari, anyone?
