Prairie Public recalls 'lost' North Dakota city of Elbowoods in new documentary premiering next week

NEW TOWN, N.D. — Prairie Public Television will premiere its original documentary "Basketball, Water and the Lost City of Elbowoods" beginning at 8 p.m. Monday, May 20. A public viewing of the documentary will begin at 7 p.m. at the 4 Bears Casino & Lodge in New Town, 202 Frontage Road.

This documentary tells the story of the 1942 Elbowoods High School basketball team's appearance in the North Dakota State Class B championship game that resulted in a loss and a 60-year effort to right a wrong. It also explores the town of Elbowoods, which is now covered by Lake Sakakawea after the Garrison Dam was constructed in the 1950s.

The viewing party is free and open to the public.
