MOORHEAD – It's the fast-food version of poutine, and it's delicious.
Arby's new Loaded Curly Fries takes the chain's popular curly fries and loads them up with cheese, chopped bacon and peppercorn ranch sauce.
I knew as soon as I saw a commercial for this new option that it would be tasty because it seems impossible to screw up bacon and gooey sauce on fries. Still, I was impressed by how good this combination really was.
The peppery tang of the ranch sauce came through in each bite, subduing the cheddar cheese sauce a bit but making for a great combo. A light sprinkling of shredded cheddar cheese on top was a nice touch. Arby's curly fries are always good, so those worked well as a base. And bacon can make anything better.
My one hesitation going into this was fear that the fries would be a soggy mess under all of that gooey sauce, a problem that I apparently didn't need to worry about. The fries held up well, and while this should be eaten with a fork, it wasn't nearly as messy as I had imagined.

It probably goes without saying that piling cheese and sauce and bacon on fries makes for an unhealthy bowl of food, and Loaded Curly Fries clock in at 700 calories and 46 grams of fat.
But it was more the richness of the overall dish than the nutritional information that made me think this would be best shared with another person or perhaps served as a meal in itself rather than an appetizer or side.
For only $2.99 before tax, it's an economical, delicious new addition to the menu.
Bottom line: Arby's Loaded Curly Fries is a delicious new comfort food option that works well as a fast-food take on poutine.
