The long-time pastor at the Lutheran Church of Christ the King in Moorhead, Matthew Valan is used to sharing the good word. He shares some painful and hopeful words tonight when he reads from his new book, "Sister Secrets: A Brother's Reveal," at Zandbroz Variety, 420 Broadway, Fargo. The author discusses some dark chapters in his family's history of mental illness which left one sister dead and another in jail for killing her husband. 2. Kay Ornberg

Long a regular fixture of downtown Fargo galleries, Kay Ornberg gets a little more space for her new show, "The Human Figure and My Rural Surroundings," opening this weekend at the Rourke Art Gallery + Museum, 521 Main Ave., Moorhead. The Rollag, Minn., artist focuses mostly on the human body and her deft touch with watercolors wonderfully reflects the gracefulness of the flesh and form. 3. PRCA Championship Rodeo

Friday and Saturday

Get ready to take in some of the finest horse riding and roping in the country with this weekend's PRCA Championship Rodeo at the Fargodome, 1800 University Dr., N. More than 200 contestants, including Ty Breuer of Mandan, N.D., Dusty Hausauer of Dickinson, N.D., and Brett Stall of Detroit Lakes, Minn., will saddle up for the competitions.The action starts at 7:30, Friday and Saturday night. 4. Moorhead Ice Show

Friday - Sunday

If the Olympics left you wanting more figure skating, make your way over to the Moorhead Sports Arena, 324 24th St. S., for the annual Moorhead Ice Show. The program features skaters of all talent levels including nationally ranked skater Tim Dolensky. Performances start at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. 5. The Great Winter Crow Show

Every other year area artists dive deep into the stories and superstitions surrounding the mysterious bird for The Great Winter Crow Show. The biennial invitational takes lots of looks at the characteristics-both real and fictional-of the black bird for an exhibit that always offers something new, from drawings, paintings and prints to even poetry and even wearable art. 6. Laserfest

Friday - Sunday

Sure, you can sit in your man cave and crank your favorite tunes, but if you ever wanted to dim the lights and really see the music, check out Laserfest this weekend. The Minnesota State University Moorhead planetarium's grooviest show of the year lights up your favorite artists, from The Beatles to Beyonce, Led Zeppelin to Lady Gaga and, of course, lots of Pink Floyd.
