The Rourke Art Gallery + Museum celebrates a late, influential artist with a gallery in his name.
The Duane K. Mickelson Memorial Gallery honors the late sculptor and Concordia College art teacher. Mickelson, who grew up in and spent most of his life living near Hawley, Minn., died in 2015 at the age of 62. A reception for the gallery will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 14.
The celebration coincides with the opening of two sculpture exhibitions. "Murmurations," is co-curated by Lauren Kensok and Dwight Mickelson, Duane's brother, and the outdoor sculpture exhibit curated by Dwight, "Sculpture at The Rourke: Courtyard Invitational."
From 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, the horn band the Mickelson brothers co-founded, Hartford Street Brass, plays the Rourke.
