FARGO - Kayley Erlandson first wore a bow tie when she dressed as one of The Doctors from "Doctor Who" for Halloween.
And then she started incorporating the accessory into her daily fashion. It was scary at first to wear an adornment typically reserved for men, 25-year-old Erlandson says. But then people started complimenting her original look.
"I try to be brave about it," she says.
She wears a bow tie once a month and I spotted her downtown on one of those days. I liked her funky style that marries menswear with feminine touches.
Describe your style. Eclectic geek-chic with a feminine twist.

What are you wearing today? Heels from DSW, Target cardigan and pants, shirt from JCPenney and my bow tie is from Etsy.
Who are your style icons? Leslie Knope (played by Amy Poehler) on "Parks and Recreation" because she's cute and feminine but into politics. I admire her as a character. And Indiana Jones because he can be anything and occasionally wears a bow tie.
Who wears bow ties best? Bill Nye the Science Guy. And Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones. He was my first bow tie love.
What's your fashion philosophy? I ask myself, "Does it make me happy when I wear it?" And I never worry about other people judging me.
Where do you shop? Target, JCPenney, Macy's, Etsy, DSW, Kittsona and any downtown Fargo shops.
Where do you seek style inspiration? People watching. I also recently started watching AMC's "Agent Carter" and it's set in the 1940s. I'm digging the gorgeous wardrobe.
