FARGO - The Fargo Veterans Affairs Medical Center will hold free public events in recognition of Suicide Prevention Month:
• Resource fair, 8:30 a.m. to noon, Sept. 10. Programs will include caregiver support, health care for homeless veterans, female veterans, health promotion, disease prevention, minority veterans, suicide prevention and more.
• First Link group presentation for survivors of suicide loss, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 11 or 6 to 7 p.m. Sept. 13. Facilitators of the group give a presentation on their process and answer questions about suicide loss or how to become more involved in the ongoing group.
• Reducing suicide risk - pain management and substance abuse, 11 a.m. to noon, Sept. 12. Psychology and substance abuse staff members will address these topics and answer questions about resources and programming within Fargo VA.
• Reducing suicide risk - population-specific risks, 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 14. University of North Dakota professor Bruce Reeves will dispel myths regarding gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender veterans.
