MOORHEAD – Two new documentaries about local history will premiere Friday during a free, double-feature event.
The documentaries premiere at 7 p.m. Friday at the Hjemkomst Center, 202 1st Ave. N., Moorhead. The event is presented by the North Dakota State University Public History Program and the Fargo History Project, a public history effort sponsored by NDSU assistant professor of history Angela Smith.
Students conduct research and upload their work to the Fargo History Project site at http://fargohistory.com each fall for the project that strives to educate the community about its history.
Friday’s hourlong event includes a chance to meet the students and faculty members and hear discussion about the research.
Attendees will see the premiere of “The 1862 Siege at Fort Abercrombie,” a documentary about the fort near Abercrombie, N.D., that was besieged by Dakota Indians for about six weeks during the 1862 Sioux War.
“The Randolph Probstfield Story” also will premiere Friday, telling the story of the German man who established a family homestead in Oakport Township, Minn., by 1868 – before the development of Fargo-Moorhead.
