Thanks to Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein's comedy, "Portlandia," it's hard to take acts from the Rose City seriously. Still, Jenn Rawling and Basho Parks deserve a serious listen. The indie-folk duo travel well-worn Americana trails, but do so with sincerity. Rawling's earnest vocals pair with her guitar picking, while Parks adds fiddle flourishes and backing vocals.
Check out the pair when they play the Listening Room series Friday at the Spirit Room, 111 Broadway, Fargo. Music starts at 7:30 p.m. Admission is an $11 donation, with all the money going to the artists. (701) 237-0230.
