The start of October marked the beginning of a recycling challenge for Fargo residents.

The City of Fargo, MinnKota Recycling and the Fargo Public Schools Creative Arts program have joined together to ask residents to take part in the "Cans for Cash Challenge."

Cities are put to the challenge of recycling. MinnKota will match a penny per pound of aluminum cans collected in Fargo during the month.

The Cans for Cash Challenge will run through the month of October with an award of $5,000 to winning cities.

Donations can be dropped off at the Fargo recycling drop-sites, MinnKota Recycling redemption centers and at area schools for the "Arts Can Do" program.

Fargo won the challenge three years ago with the "Cans for Fans" NDSU Challenge.
