North Dakota newspaper makes Letterman laugh

BISMARCK-It's a good thing I watch Letterman almost every night since North Dakota seems to make a cameo appearance on a fairly regular basis lately.

On Thursday night, North Dakota came up during the "Small Town News" segment. Letterman pulled up a brief that he said appeared in The Bottineau Courant. The brief gave details of a surprise party planned for someone.

I called the The Bottineau Courant this morning to see if they were getting calls about being on the show. Managing Editor Lynn Weber said they weren't getting any calls, and she had no idea that her newspaper was on Letterman last night.

I told her what was on, and she laughed, saying they actually have had a few surprise parties published in the newspaper.

In July, North Dakota made Letterman's Top 10 "Signs the United States is running out of money." One of those signs? "There's a listing on eBay for North Dakota."

In December, North Dakota and Minnesota had cameo appearances on David Letterman's "Top Ten Surprises In The 2010 Census."

North Dakota's mention came in No. 8: North Dakota is used mainly for storage.
