Ernst & Young seeks entrepreneur nominees

On the subject of awards, the Minneapolis office of Ernst & Young is seeking nominations for the company's entrepreneur of the year award for the Upper Midwest.

The region covers Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Dakotas. The most recent local winner was David Meyer of Titan Machinery in 2009. All but one of last year's winners were from Minnesota companies. (In other words, get those North Dakota nominations in there and represent.)

Winners will be recognized at an event in Milwaukee in June. For more information, visit www.ey.com or call program manager Heather Komomua at (612) 371-8468.

Hannaher's of Fargo buys Gaffaney's

Two well-known names in furniture are putting their heads (or their desks) together, with Fargo's Hannaher's Inc. announcing this week it will acquire Gaffaney's Office Solutions of Grand Forks.

The two companies have been in the office furnishings business for a combined 137 years - 72 for Hannaher's and 65 for Gaffaney's. Both sell products from Michigan-based office furniture giant Steelcase (the name might not ring a bell, but they make everything from office chairs to desks to filing cabinets).

Hannaher's indicated the Grand Forks staff will remain intact.
