A smattering of fall changes are on the menu at Maxwell's in West Fargo and Mezzaluna in downtown Fargo, the two home bases of Mosaic Foods.

At Maxwell's, lunch hours are out; the restaurant will now host private events during the day. The bar opens at 4 p.m. for happy hour Monday through Thursday with complimentary pork sandwiches. Live jazz events begin on Sept. 15.

Mezzaluna, meanwhile, the former Silver Moon space at 309 Roberts St., will begin hosting dinner theater evenings starting on Sept. 16. Those include a prix fixe menu, minus beverages, and a show. First up is "Murder at Café Noir," an interactive dinner theater staple.

Dinner and the show is $60. The event starts at 6 p.m. on Sept. 16 and 17, and is by reservation only. Call (701) 373-7805 or email Sara Watson at sara@mosaicfoodgroup.com for more information.

Tweaking 'Fighting Who' for fun and profit

When I covered the tailgating bonanza before the North Dakota State University Bison football opener last weekend, I remarked on the abundance of "Fighting Who?" T-shirts in the crowd, in spite of the absence of a Sioux-related opponent.

As it turns out, those shirts are a side business for Julie and Todd Martin of Fargo. Todd thought up the phrase last year when the NDSU women's volleyball team played the University of North Dakota, and they got it trademarked.

"My husband hates the Sioux," Julie told me this week. "I actually don't mind the Sioux."

They had an online store for a while and dabbled in selling near games (NDSU didn't like that, Julie says). Julie figures they sold about 500. Their inventory has since run low, but they're looking at placing another order and expanding to a University of Minnesota Golden Gopher line.

"It's all in good fun," Julie says. " 'Fighting Who?' is kind of nice. It's not like some of the old T-shirts that were made."

Fargo Brewing Co. sets Sept. 28 launch

The beer is fermenting, the kegs are ordered and the date for the launch party - Sept. 28 - is set. Later this month, the first batch of beer from the Fargo Brewing Co. is set to hit local bars.

It's the only locally owned beer company in Fargo-Moorhead - and, as far as we know, the only one in the state of North Dakota (or at least the only one producing beer). Initially, the owners had planned to open a brewery here; for now, they're brewing at Sand Creek Brewery in Black River Falls, Wis.

For more information on the company and on where you can get the beer, keep an eye on The Forum or search for the Fargo Brewing Co. on Facebook.
