GRAND FORKS — The Salvation Army has received more than a dozen calls about new bell ringer Gregory Wimberly during the month he's been volunteering. He's been praised for his upbeat attitude and friendly personality.
"I like bell ringing because I love to entertain," Wimberly said. "I love to make people happy and I love to spread the Christmas spirit ... I give everybody the Christmas spirit when they come in the door, when they leave the door. I make sure everybody leave here with joy."
WDAY News has learned Wimberly set a new donation record recently.

People dropped more than $900 dollars into his kettle in a single day, hundreds of dollars more than past years at Sam's Club.
"They make a difference because they give back to the community, helping someone less fortunate than them. And it makes me feel so good inside," Wimberly said.
Donations stay in the Grand Forks area to support everything from summer camps for kids to the food pantry.
As you’re donating this holiday season, one of Santa's helpers is hoping to make your day merry.
"Make people feel welcome. You never know what somebody is going through that morning. So it's best to greet them," Wimberly said.
