FARGO – New York Times best-selling author and breast cancer survivor Kelly Corrigan is the keynote speaker at this year's United Way of Cass-Clay's Women's Leadership Luncheon on Oct. 20. Corrigan is best known for her 2008 book, "The Middle Place," a memoir about her Irish-American father's battle with cancer and her own triumph over the disease.

Her second book, "Lift," was published in 2010 also reached No. 2 on the New York Times bestseller list. It is written in the form of a letter to her children and is an examination of risk and parenthood through the lens of three true stories.

Her most recent book is "Glitter and Glue," which uncovers the sometimes nourishing and sometimes exasperating bond between mothers and daughters.

Corrigan is also the author of the essay "Transcending" which centers on "women's remarkable capacity to support each other, to laugh together, and to endure." Her reading of that essay on YouTube has received more than 4 million views to date. She is also a contributor to O, The Oprah Magazine, Good Housekeeping, Glamour and other print and online publications, and has appeared on The Today Show.

The Leadership Luncheon begins at 11 a.m. Oct. 20 with the Purses Plus Silent Auction followed by lunch and Corrigan's speech at noon. Tickets are $55 for individuals and $660 for a table. Money raised from the event goes to support local education and students.

To get tickets, email registration@unitedwaycassclay.org . According the United Way, approximately 200 tickets remain. Last year the event sold out. The deadline to register is Oct. 6.
