Deputies take community kids Christmas shopping

GRAND FORKS, ND-- Christmas will be a little merrier for some local kids as Sheriff's deputies took them on a shopping spree.

About 20 kids from Grand Forks County and Emerado made their way to Target right now, shopping for their families.

The Grand Forks Sheriff's Department, University of North Dakota Police, and Emerado Police are all partnering with the kids to get goodies for their families.

The men and women in blue raised about 3 thousand dollars for Shop with a Deputy. It's a heartwarming event that brings our local police closer to the people they protect and serve.

"Just helping out families. You know, it's fun to watch them shop and stuff like that but when you know you're helping the families, that makes you feel good," said Sgt. Steve Hamre with the Grand Forks Police Department.

The kids are allowed one gift for themselves -- but the rest goes to their family.
