GLYNDON, Minn. — On a track like the snow-covered track at Interstate Raceway, slipping and sliding on the ice isn't an accident, it is part of the fun.
"It's our first snow and ice drifting event or, sliding around, (in a) kind of controlled sliding," said event promoter Ethan Seigel.
Seigel promotes races at the track, and he says this one stands out from the others.
"We wanted to try carving a course in the property out here and see how it went," he said.
They used tractors and plows to create the course, letting drivers use the ice to their advantage.

WDAY News reporter Mike McGurran took a lap on a track with racer Cody Buchanan, a longtime drift racer.
"It's always fun to give passengers rides, especially people who've never been in a drift car before. It's always a blast" Buchanan said.
Buchanan was cool as a cucumber the whole time. He said his years of experience in racing help keep him calm.
"You have to be calm, you have to be ready for bad situations," he explained.
It can be a very exciting hobby, and Buchanan says it's a great way to escape reality, even just for a short time.
"It's an adrenaline rush, and it's a good escape from reality," he said. "We're all car guys here. And without a track, without something to do this at legally, let's be real. A lot of these people will be on the streets causing havoc and being very dangerous. So it's a real good escape from reality."
