FARGO - A photo of people gathered around a fire has caught the attention of many across Fargo because of what some say the flame looks like.
The image, taken by Paulette Osborne, shows a group of people around a fire at an Easter Sunday vigil on March 31 at Fargo's Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1420 Seventh St. N. A flame at the center of the photo is said to resemble the likeness of Jesus.
Osborne, of Fargo, describes herself as an amateur photographer. She said she decided to take photos of the evening for her church. The photo, now spread over the internet, was the seventh one she took of the fire and the last one before the congregation went into the church.
She said she didn't notice the photo until several days later when she went through them again.
"It's such a symbolic, beautiful picture of that evening," Osborne said.
The image was published in the May issue of Fargo Catholic Diocese's monthly publication, New Earth, but both Osborne and the Diocese say the image isn't an apparition of Jesus.
"The Diocese of Fargo does not claim this photo to be an apparition of Our Lord, and knows of no one making such a claim," the Diocese said in an email statement. "The photo was published because of its beauty and relevance to the celebration of Easter."
Osborne said she believes she was just in the right place at the right time to take the photo and that people see in it what they want to see.
The photo was quickly embraced by others in her church and on Facebook, she said.
"I thought it was a beautiful picture and I just want to share it," Osborne said.
