MOORHEAD - On Sunday, Oct. 7, dozens of walkers will join people in thousands of communities around the country in the CROP Hunger Walk, raising money for local and world hunger relief through providing immediate relief and working with local people and agencies in long-term development projects.
This year, the Heather and Thistle Bagpipers will kick off the walk, while the Red River Radio Amateurs will shepherd the walkers over the 5K and Ceremonial routes.
One-fourth of the money raised will stay in the local community, benefiting organizations like Churches United for Homeless, Dorothy Day House, Emergency Food Pantry and more, while the rest of the funds will be put to use across the globe through Church World Service, an agency of 35 denominations working together to eradicate hunger and poverty.
People of all faiths and no faiths and all ages and abilities are invited to join in the fun and helpful effort. The walk will be held at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 406 Eighth St. S., Moorhead, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 7. For more information, visit www.crophungerwalk.org/fargond/.
