Painting with mind, body, spirit

FARGO — Using simple rules based on contemplative practices to guide the workshop, participants in an upcoming workshop will engage in a creative process that focuses on connecting the mind, body and spirit.

This workshop will focus on the theme of “perspective,” using the Prayer of Examen as the guide. By the end, participants will have a piece of art to take home. Supplies provided. Participants do not need to be artists to attend.

Workshop leader Sister Michelle Walka is an artist and the director of Beloved Art and Practice serving the Eastern North Dakota Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ECLA) through workshop and retreat facilitation focusing on creativity and contemplative prayer practices. She is a sister in the Deaconesse Community of the ELCA and is a rostered minister of word and service.

The workshop will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at Presentation Prayer Center, 1101 32nd Ave. S. Suggested donation is $30; scholarships available. Supplies provided. Mindful movement

FARGO — Presentation Prayer Center, 1101 32nd Ave S., will host a six-week mindful movement workshop from 6:45 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays in April and May.

Class dates are April 10, 17, 24, and May 1, 8 and 15.

Workshops will begin with gentle movement practice and will progress into dance. Instructors will help participants connect mind, body and spirit through guided exploration of creative dance elements, improvisation and interactive movement games. No dance experience is necessary; all body types and abilities are welcome.

Carlos Diaz benefit set for Friday

HAWLEY, Minn. — A benefit to help a Hawley man suffering from kidney failure will take place here Friday, March 8.

The benefit for 42-year-old Carlos Diaz, a married father of two who has been conditionally approved for a kidney transplant, will start with a prayer service from 4 to 5 p.m. Friday and continue with a spaghetti dinner, bake sale, silent auction and raffle until 8 p.m. at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, 1418 Main St., Hawley.
