PELICAN RAPIDS, Minn. — Locals can head over to Otter Tail County's Maplewood State Park throughout June to find everything from meditation to live music and more.
The park, 39721 Park Entrance Road, Pelican Rapids, will host three sessions of meditation this summer beginning Monday, June 17. From 6:30-7:15 p.m., participants can gather at the Josh Hanson Memorial Picnic Shelter for meditation facilitated by Sue Nyhus. Meditation sessions are also planned July 16 and Aug. 15. There's no charge to participate, but a Maplewood State Park pass is needed, and a lawn chair is recommended.
On June 22, enjoy the natural beauty of the park while creating your own art with a watercolor painting class between 10 a.m. and noon. This free event is meant for people of all ages and talent levels, and Barnseville (Minn.) art teacher Heidi Smith will be there at the Josh Hanson Memorial Picnic Shelter to help participants create their works of art. Later that day, singer-songwriter Rhoda Anderson Habedank will perform a blend of folk and original music from 7-8:30 p.m. at the picnic shelter.
Photographers can head to the park for a photography class from 1-3 p.m. June 23 to learn more about the art and get some basic tips and training by members of the Detroit Lakes Photography Group.
