Fargo first-graders gather hundreds of teddy bears for kids in need

FARGO — For National Kindness week, local first-graders are putting teddy bears into the arms of kids in crisis.

First grade students at Lewis and Clark Elementary are calling for teddy bear donations, dubbing them "We Care Bears." This is the third year first-graders have collected hundreds of stuffed animals to donate.

The last two years, the animals went to local fire and police departments, but this year they'll go to Clay County Social Services. The fuzzy friends will be given to children in crisis situations to help calm and comfort them.

"We are a huge world, but our small, little impact can impact somebody right here in Fargo," said Lewis and Clark teacher, Stacy Anderson. "Service learning is a great way to help kids realize they are little, but they can help solve really big problems."

You can bring stuffed animal donations to Lewis and Clark Elementary until Friday, Feb. 15. The students ask that any bears you bring in are new or gently used.
