MOORHEAD — Who doesn't like cupcakes?
I dare you to find someone. I'll give you a minute. Stumped?
That's what Addie Loerzel of Moorhead is counting on. Since 2013, the 13-year-old has banked on the community's shared love of cupcakes and Disney princesses by organizing the annual Addie's Royal Cupcake Stand.
More than a dozen Disney princesses will be delivering AND serving cupcakes Tuesday, Aug. 13. The princesses will be delivering pre-orders in the morning, or locals can walk up and buy their own cupcakes from 3-5:30 p.m. in the parking lot of First International Bank and Trust, 800 30th Ave. S., Moorhead.
A few local celebrities are even dressing up in princess gear for the special occasion.
Proceeds from the sale will benefit The Sunshine Foundation, which makes dreams come true for children who are ill or have a serious condition. Addie had her own dream granted a few years ago, and she wanted to pay it forward.
The stand, which sells more than 3,000 cupcakes every year, has become so popular that the head of The Sunshine Foundation stopped by in 2018 to congratulate Addie.
This year's stand promises to be even more royal as Addie was recently crowned "Miss Minnesota Amazing Teen."
But no matter who is serving them, the choices are better than ever this year. Flavors for 2019 include Oreo, vanilla, cherry almond and cookie dough. Plus, Addie has opted to have two "Cupcakes of the Year" this time around — Salted Caramel Pretzel and Strawberry Lemonade.
I chose to make the Strawberry Lemonade version because Addie's mom, Marissa Bengtson-Loerzel hinted that it might be her new favorite.
Watch this week's episode of "The Scoop with Tracy Briggs" online at inforum.com as we walk you through the steps of making the sweet strawberry-lemony dessert.
