AMENIA, N.D. — Berry bushes line the driveway leading up to a charming little farm on the outskirts of Amenia. Father-and-son duo Greg and Chase Nelson began farming aronia berries (also known as chokeberries) half a decade ago, and to celebrate this season's harvest, they've teamed up with Nature of the North to host the first Aronia Berry Harvest Festival beginning at noon Sunday, Sept. 15, at the Nelson Aronia Farm, 15670 25th St. SE.
The inaugural event will feature attractions for the whole family, including music, yoga, yard games, workshops, an alpaca petting zoo and an up-close viewing of the Polish aronia harvester. Local food, beer, wine and kombucha vendors will have goods available to satisfy every craving, while local chefs battle it out to create the best dish using the berry with festivalgoers getting the opportunity to sample each chef's creation to vote on the winner.
This festival is free and open to the community. For more information, find the Aronia Berry Harvest Festival 2019 at Nelson Aronia Farm event on Facebook.
