GRAND FORKS — The french fry feed will go on this year, just inside.
Officials from the Potato Bowl USA Committee have decided to move the Simplot Potato Bowl French Fry Feed inside to the Hyslop Sports Center Arena on the University of North Dakota campus, Potato Bowl USA announced on its Facebook page on Wednesday, Sept. 11.
Last year, the french fry feed was canceled due to rain. Rain is in the forecast again this year, with the National Weather Services predicting a 100% chance of precipitation on Thursday. Last year was the first time the event had ever been rained out. This year will mark the first time the event has been held indoors, according to the post.
“The committee greatly appreciates the cooperation from the University of North Dakota to make this happen on short notice. They are a great partner with the Valley’s potato industry, and this is just another example,” said Ted Kreis, who handles advertising and communications for the event.
“There will be some scaling back, but we will still have many of the same attractions including bounce games, a magic show, meet the Fighting Hawks football team and coaches and of course the World’s Largest French Fry Feed," he said.
The French Fry Feed will start at 4 p.m. Thursday and run until about 8 p.m. Attendees are asked to use the northeast entrance to the Hyslop Sports Center. Limited parking will be available adjacent to the arena beginning at 4 p.m. with the majority of spaces available in the lot just north of the arena along University Avenue.
There will be no fireworks after the french fry feed.
