GRAND FORKS - Residents here ate their way to a new community record Thursday.
More than 2½ tons, or 5,010 pounds, of french fries were served at the annual community French Fry Feed. The event broke its previous record set in 2008 by 120 pounds.
French fries, condiments and cooking oil were provided by the J.R. Simplot Co. The company also coordinated volunteers to work the event. The fries were cooked in a fryer built specifically for the company.
Approximately 10,000 people attended the event, held in University Park on Thursday evening.
