Sens. Smith, Moran move forward on act to limit prices for oral cancer medication

Sen. Tina Smith introduced a bill to legislation that would make it so oral cancer medication would cost the same as IV chemotherapy.

Minnesota Senator Tina Smith is proposing legislation to make oral cancer drugs more affordable.

Smith, along with Kansas Senator Jerry Moran introduced the Cancer Drug Parity Act.

It would stop insurers from charging more for prescribed oral cancer medicine than IV chemotherapy. Thirty national organizations and a handful of other senators also support this piece of legislation.

"I think this means that there is strong bipartisan support and that's what it takes to get things done here in Washington D.C. and I'm very optimistic to move things forward," Senator Tina Smith said.

Minnesota already has state oral parity laws.
