If Christian Louboutin can do it, why can't everyone else?
The classic red-soled shoes that are must-have for so many fashion mavens were created on the quick by Christian Louboutin when a style of 1992 shoe "lacked energy." Louboutin pulled out a bottle of red nail polish, painted the soles and a fashion symbol was born.
Now, budget-minded British are painting the soles of their shoes red. The Telegraph.uk reports that sales of certain colors of red paint have surged 40 percent at Homebase stores, in particular colors such as "Flame" and "Show Stopper."
And not the half-gallon pot of paint either, just the tester sizes.
Just so you know, red soles were trademarked by Louboutin in 2008. In 2011, Yves Saint Laurent launched a pair of red suede shoes with red soles, and a were promptly sued by Louboutin. As of June 2012, the case hadn't been resolved. There's talk that there is no such thing as a global trademark and you can't reach across the Atlantic and sue someone.

Regardless of whether you think this is the best idea you've heard in a long time, I guess the question is, if the DIY Louboutin trend started in the U.S. do you think you could spot a fake?
