A Fargo mother has been charged with felony child abuse for allegedly hitting her five-year-old daughter in the face with a belt.

Krystal Tiqoya Lewis, 25, 2821 8th St. N., was arrested Monday after her daughter told a school employee at Madison Elementary that Lewis gave her the inch-wide bruise above her right eye by hitting her with a belt.

The girl had also told the preschool aide at Madison two weeks ago that her mother hit her for getting her shoes dirty while on the playground.

Lewis was charged Wednesday in Cass County District Court with child abuse or neglect as a Class B felony and released after being arraigned.

According to police reports filed with the charge, Lewis initially denied she hit her daughter but later admitted she did strike her with a black belt.
