FARGO — It's the third week of the government shutdown, and the first pay period thousands of federal workers in North Dakota won't get a paycheck.
There are nearly 6,000 federal employees in North Dakota, and close to 2,000 are furloughed or working without pay. Local banks say they can lend a hand to unpaid workers while they wait for for the government to resume normal activities.
Gate City Bank and many other banks offer solutions for overdrafts and payment extensions for loans.
But banks recommend reaching out as soon as possible to take advantage of benefits, said Kim Settel, Gate City Bank's Executive Vice President of Retail Banking and Lending.
"Time is of the essence, and we want to make sure that we're getting things addressed early," she said. "We can help you get a road map and a plan put in place for something in the future."
