Leah Juelke of Fargo South High School is the North Dakota recipient of the National University System-Sanford Teacher Award and $10,000 following a nomination and application process based on inspirational teaching.

U.S. Rep. Kevin Cramer nominated four North Dakota students for appointments to the nation’s military academies, including Theodore Mayer , Mott Regent High School, to the U.S. Military Academy; Adam Gorseth, Cathay, to the U.S. Naval Academy; Tommy Conmy , Oak Grove Lutheran High School, to the U.S. Air Force Academy and Samantha Hazzard , Williston, to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

Sen. Heidi Heitkamp nominated six North Dakota students for appointments to the nation’s military academies, including Ian Pytlik, Horace, to the U.S. Naval Academy; Ruby Romsland to the U.S. Military Academy; Spencer Weisgram , West Fargo, to the U.S. Military Academy; Colton Willits , North Border Walhalla High School, to the U.S. Air Force Academy; Morgan Adams , Richland 44 High School, to the U.S. Air Force Academy and London Lambrecht , Shiloh Christian School, to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

Sen. John Hoeven nominated four North Dakota students for appointments to the nation’s military academies, including Seth Benson , Sheyenne High School, to West Point; Logan Brown , Bismarck, to the U.S. Air Force Academy; Jeffrey Corcoran , Grand Forks, to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and Luke Noah , Shanley High School, to the U.S. Naval Academy.

Seven families have been recognized for their years of 4-H service and named North Dakota 4-H Century Families of 2018: Corey and LeAnn Hart , Wells County; Ralph and Deane Haugen , Griggs County; Larry and Janice Jones , Wells County; Myrene and Andrew Peterson , Ransom County; John and Margaret Bollingberg , Wells County; Richard and Elvie Jones , Wells County and Dale Opdahl , Wells County.

Fargo South High School graduate and senior at the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management Lydia Hanna has accepted a post graduate position with the Chicago firm of West Monroe Partners as a data engineering consultant.

Sheyenne High School senior Preeti Chemiti has been named semifinalists of the 2019 Coca Cola Scholars Program. They will move on to the next round for a chance to receive a $20,000 college scholarship. The program recognizes young leaders who serve their communities.


Kayli Stranger, Fargo; Andraya Parenteau, Hawley, Minn., and Adam Bakken and Carly Benusa of Moorhead will perform at Christmas in Christ Chapel worship services at Gustavus Adolphus College through Dec. 2.
