Parenting classes open for fall enrollment

FARGO — The NDSU Extention Parent & Family Resource Center is offering several online and in-person classes geared toward parents and families. The classes are aimed at enhancing the formative years of children through effective discipline skills and strategies needed to raise responsible children, according to a press release.

The free classes include:

    • Parenting the Love & Logic Way begins Sept. 26 with additional classes on Oct. 3 and 10. The class will run from 5:45 to 7:45 p.m. at the Main Library (101 4th St. N.). Topics include handling misbehavior, communicating clearly, how to avoid power struggles and enforcing limits.
    • Active Parenting: First Five Years begins at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 15 with additional classes on Sept. 22, 29 and Oct. 6. The class will be held at the Carlson Branch of the Fargo Library, located at 2801 32nd Ave. S. Topics include how to nurture young children with nonviolent discipline as well as mindfulness, self-calming and more.
    • Nurtured Heart Approach kicks off at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 21 at the Carlson Branch of the Fargo Library, located at 2801 32nd Ave. S. Additional class dates include Sept. 28 and Oct. 5 and 12. The class covers "The 3 Stands" as well as how to help children flourish in their own unique way, no matter their culture or abilities.

    In addition to the parenting classes, upcoming Parent Cafes offer caregivers an opportunity to talk about the joys and challenges of raising children in an online, informal setting. Parent Cafes will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 31, from noon to 1 p.m. on Sept. 28, noon to 1 p.m. on Oct. 19 and 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 30. Registration is required so a Zoom link can be provided.
