MOORHEAD — Some callers said it was a timberwolf. Others said a coyote, husky or shepherd.

And after about a month of receiving reports about some type of canine running loose around the city, the Moorhead Police Department says it's been captured.

The animal was found in a live trap east of 20th Street between 12th Avenue South and Main Avenue Southeast in Moorhead, police said Thursday in a Facebook post.

The animal was later determined to be a pet, and police are still trying to figure out its breed and if it is a wolf-dog hybrid. If it is a true hybrid, police said it would not be allowed to stay in the city of Moorhead.

The owner isn't currently able to retrieve the animal, according to police, who said the animal would remain in the pound as they investigate and search for a new home.
