Where: Suomussalmi, Finland

When: June 2019

Distance from Fargo: 4,195 miles

Comments: “My daughter and I visited beautiful Finland in June 2019 to research our Finnish heritage. On Highway 5, 30 kilometers north of Suomussalmi (Northeastern Finland) in a field near the road stood the Silent People. This is the artwork of Reijo Kela of Suomussalmi. Over 1000 figures stand silently with colorful clothing, faceless heads made of peat, their bodies are wooden crosses all facing the same direction. Creepy, cool and interpretation left up to the visitor.”
