DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — Though it's still in the planning stages, the Detroit Lakes Park Board is looking at installing a handicap accessible dock somewhere on the beach along Little Detroit Lake. A plan for the project is expected to be presented at the board's Nov. 3 meeting.
The proposed dock was discussed at length during the board's Wednesday afternoon meeting. Jason Bristlin, commander of Detroit Lakes VFW Post 1676, said that he would be willing to help put together the fundraising for the project.
Bristlin said he felt the project would appeal to "anyone who has restricted mobility, in any way," and he didn't anticipate a problem in raising the money needed.
Detroit Lakes Public Works Director Shawn King said that he had received a couple of quotes for the proposed project, from TS Dock & Lift, which provided the low quote of about $84,000, and J & K Marine, which submitted a quote of around $86,000.
Neither quote was approved at the meeting, as the board thought some more research needed to be done first and tabled the discussion until November.
