Schools across the country have experienced false calls regarding active shooters in recent weeks, prompting law enforcement to investigate the matter. In Minnesota, 15 schools, from Rochester to Cloquet received hoax calls this week.

The Emergency Response Unit in Olmsted County, Minnesota, responded to a standoff Aug. 20. The man, Michael Molitor, 37, of Pine Island, fired several shots at law enforcement. "You already know what's going to happen," Michael Steven Molitor, 37, of Pine Island, told a Goodhue County Sheriff's deputy. "I plan on dying today." Molitor would later unleash a barrage of bullets at law enforcement during an hourslong standoff Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022.
Michael Molitor is in custody at the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center; a charging decision is expected Tuesday.
