McFeely blog: High school QB from Washington commits to Bison; 3-star QB prospect from Georgia will visit NDSU

J.J. Woodin started for three years at a high school in Oregon before playing his senior season in Washington

FARGO — High school quarterback J.J. Woodin tweeted his commitment to North Dakota State on Thursday. He is a 6-4, 210-pound senior from Evergreen High School in Vancouver, Wash.

NDSU has just two returning quarterbacks, freshman Cam Miller and sophomore Quincy Patterson II. Miller became the Bison's primary quarterback in the regular-season finale against South Dakota State and he started two playoff games. Patterson, a transfer from Virginia Tech, will be eligible at NDSU this fall.

The Bison lost two QBs when senior Zeb Noland decided to not return for the fall and redshirt freshman Logan Graetz entered the transfer portal.

NDSU has coveted Omaha recruited Cole Payton coming in the fall.

Woodin started for three years at a high school in Oregon before playing his senior season in Washington, where he started his senior year at Evergreen.

He tweeted about an offer from Northern Illinois shortly before tweeting an offer and commitment to NDSU. His prospect page at 247 Sports said he was offered by Division III Linfield College and Division II Western Oregon.

Three-star Georgia prep QB will visit NDSU

A three-star quarterback prospect from Georgia who has multiple Group of Five FBS offers says he will make an official visit to NDSU.

Ashton Daniels, a junior at Buford High School, told 247 Sports he will visit NDSU in early June . Daniels said he will hold workouts for a few Power Five schools later in the month.

"Two of their past three guys are first rounders," Daniels told 247 Sports. "So, clearly they are doing something right. I have also formed a great relationship with the coaching staff there."

Daniels was referring to former Bison quarterbacks Carson Wentz, who went to the Philadelphia Eagles with the second overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, and Trey Lance, who was the third overall pick of the San Francisco 49ers in last month's 2021 draft.

Daniels' recruiting page at 247 Sports says he's been offered by NDSU. Other offers have come from Florida Atlantic, Appalachian State, Bowling Green, Charlotte, Eastern Michigan, Florida International, Massachusetts, Troy and Alabama-Birmingham.

He will workout for Auburn and Vanderbilt, according to 247 Sports. Daniels is also receiving interest from Duke, Stanford and South Carolina.
