EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. — From oils to gummies to cosmetics, two new stores selling strictly CBD products could soon open in the upper and lower Red River Valley.
CBD of East Grand Forks and a second store in Moorhead are set to open sometime in the next month and will sell the cannabis-derived product often used to aid in relaxation, also known as cannabidiol.
"It's a comforting product," said co-owner Matt Stengl, who called the final push to opening day exiting though nerve-wracking at the same time. "We know that there’s a lot of people out there that are using the product."
CBD products are made from the hemp plant but don't have psychoactive properties.
"You can drive a car. You can take care of your kids. You can do all of your daily activities without it interfering with anything," business partner Alexa Dobberstein said.
Their products will cost anywhere from $30 to $100 and are claimed to help with a variety of conditions. Dobberstein said CBD can provide relief from headaches and a long list of other conditions can including seizures, chronic pain, anxiety and depression.
CBD's ability to treat neurological conditions has been the subject of intense debate, though the Food and Drug Administration approved a CBD-based prescription for certain forms of epilepsy in 2018.
Dobberstein said anyone curious about CBD is invited to visit their store, where they pride themselves on their knowledge. Store employees will take time to help customers to understand the product.
They say education will be the key to killing any stigma surrounding the product.
"It's a place where they can heal potentially,” said Stengl. “That could potentially help them for months, years, generations."
A second store, CBD of Moorhead, is set to open the first weekend in May. Check CBD of Moorhead's Facebook page for updates.
