Former patients aren't alone in seeking money from Fargo's Allcare Dental, the local branch of a nationwide chain of dental practices that closed unexpectedly last month.
According to a civil complaint filed in Cass County District Court, the owner of the building where the Fargo business was - 4302 13th Ave. S. - is suing Allcare for back rent, maintenance fees and late fees alleged to total more than $21,500.
The landlord, JPR Investments, LLC #13, claims in the eviction action that the back payments are calculated through Jan. 1.
Former patients in North Dakota have filed 91 complaints concerning prepaid work never done, alleged debts of about $278,000, said Parrell Grossman, director of North Dakota Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division.
Grossman said officials in North Dakota are working to gather claims with authorities from other states where Allcare shut down dental practices. The dental chain is based out of Pennsylvania, he said.
Though the investigation is not complete, Grossman said North Dakota officials may decide within 30 days how to go about trying to recover money that's still owed to former patients.
But Allcare is considering declaring bankruptcy, and repayment might be difficult to obtain, he said.
Former Allcare patients who haven't reported any outstanding debts yet are urged to call the Consumer Protection Division at (800) 472-2600, Grossman said.
