3-vehicle crash in Devils Lake involving drunk driver leaves 1 seriously injured

The driver, from Fargo, went through a red light, causing a "T-bone" crash at the intersection of US Highway 2 and State Highway 20

DEVILS LAKE, N.D. — A three-vehicle collision involving a drunk driver occurred at 11:08 a.m. Sunday, May 23, at the intersection of US Highway 2 and State Highway 20 in Devils Lake.

According to a report from the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Tanner Mitchell, a 28-year-old from Fargo, was traveling northbound on State Highway 20, when he drove through a red light.

Mitchell was then struck at a right angle by a Chevrolet Traverse, driven by 63-year-old Paul Tronson, from Doyon, N.D. Mitchell's vehicle, a Ford Explorer rolled off into a ditch with the front driver side's wheel flying off after striking a third vehicle, driven by 84-year-old Earl Pelton.

Mitchell was found to be impaired and arrested for DUI, DUS, Reckless Driving, and was cited for driving through a red light, the report said.

Tronson suffered serious injuries.

Devils Lake Fire Department and Devils Lake Rural Fire Department, along with Lake Region Ambulance responded to the scene.
