FARGO – Swimmers and sunbathers who frequent the outdoor pool at Fargo Davies High School had to go elsewhere on Tuesday. Fecal matter discovered in the pool late Monday afternoon required the Fargo Park District to temporarily close the pool so the water could be shock-treated.

A child's diaper came off in the pool at 7150 25th St. S. about 4:40 p.m. Monday, said Dave Klundt, assistant director of recreation for the Park District. The pool was immediately cleared and did not reopen for its evening session.

Klundt said when fecal matter is found, a pool must be super-chlorinated under policies set by Fargo Cass Public Health. He said it takes about 30 hours for the chlorine level in pool water to return to safe levels.

He said a similar incident closed the outdoor pool at Fargo South High School last Thursday night.

"It does happen all the time, unfortunately," said Klundt. "I wish it didn't."
