NEAR LARIMORE, N.D. – A barn fire five miles north of Larimore claimed two horses and two sheep Tuesday morning.
The barn was consumed by flames when about a dozen firefighters from Larimore Volunteer Fire Department arrived on the scene shortly before 9 a.m.
“It was fully engulfed. Our effort was more just to keep it from spreading to the farmstead,” Larimore Fire Chief Ray Fegter said.
Although the fire cause has not been determined, he said it might have been electrical, possibly starting in an area where water tanks are heated. A pole barn on the east side of the barn also was lost.
“It’s a total loss,” he said. “It was a very old barn.”
The names of the property owners or occupants were not immediately available.
