A 60-year-old Jamestown man is listed in critical condition Friday, April 22, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, according to to Nadine Aljets, Sanford spokesperson.

Jamestown Police Chief Scott Edinger said Dennis Schneider was injured after a BNSF train struck him while he was in the wheelchair Thursday afternoon.

Lt. Robert Opp with the Jamestown Police Department said Friday that Schneider was crossing the railroad tracks on Second Avenue Southeast well before the BNSF train was coming through Jamestown. Opp said a front wheel on Schneider’s motorized wheelchair got stuck in a track in the crossing and Schneider was unable to get the wheelchair unstuck.

The accident occurred at 1:45 p.m. Thursday at the BNSF crossing on Second Avenue Southeast. The train came to a stop within 75 yards after striking Schneider, just short of the First Avenue crossing.

Schneider was transferred to Sanford Medical Center via Life Flight. He was first transported to Jamestown Regional Medical Center by Jamestown Area Ambulance.
