WEST FARGO-Clarence and Tammy Baumgartner died as the result of a murder-suicide Sunday, Aug. 21, police have confirmed.
"West Fargo investigators believe Clarence Baumgartner shot and killed his estranged wife, Tammy Baumgartner," police said in a statement released Thursday, Aug. 25. "Clarence Baumgartner then turned the gun on himself and died as the result of a self inflicted gunshot wound."
West Fargo police were called to to the home of Clarence Baumgartner at 444 C St. shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday. When they arrived, officers found two people with gunshot wounds: Clarence and Tammy Baumgartner.

Clarence, 55, was taken to Sanford Medical Center, where he died on Monday, Aug. 22. Tammy, 45, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The couple's oldest daughter, Savanna Baumgartner, told The Forum earlier this week that police had informed family they suspect Clarence had shot his wife before shooting himself. She said her mother was planning to divorce Clarence and had moved into her own home. It was not clear to her children why Tammy was at Clarence's home Sunday.
Savanna Baumgartner said Clarence Baumgartner had a history of domestic abuse, but there were no recent incidents.
Funeral arrangements are being made for both Clarence and Tammy, the statement said.
A prayer service for Tammy Lynn (Jochim) Baumgartner will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at Dahlstrom Funeral Home in Wishek. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wishek. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Wishek.
Funeral arrangements for Clarence have not yet been submitted to The Forum.
