FARGO - Special Olympics North Dakota will host its summer games from Thursday, June 8, to Saturday, June 10, in Fargo.
About 600 children and adults with intellectual disabilities will compete in track and field, swimming, bocce, powerlifting and volleyball. They'll also take part in an opening ceremony, health screenings and a victory celebration.
At 6:45 p.m. Thursday, a parade of athletes will travel from the Great Northern Bicycle Company, 425 Broadway, down Broadway to the Fargo Civic Center. The opening ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. in the Civic Center, with free entertainment by "The Voice" contestants Blind Joe and Jozy Hansen.
A torch run, including about 75 law enforcement volunteers, is set to start at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Casey's General Store, 1462 N. Broadway, and end at the Civic Center for the opening ceremony.
