BLUEBERRY TOWNSHIP, Minn. – A Nevis, Minn., man was injured when a turkey flew out of a ditch and smashed through the windshield of a moving pickup near here Sunday afternoon, March 18, the Minnesota State Patrol reported.

Thomas Walls, 38, was treated for injuries that weren’t life-threatening at Tri-County Health Care in Wadena, the Patrol reported.

Walls was a passenger in a 1998 Ford pickup that was southbound on U.S. Highway 71 north of 340th Street shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday when a turkey flew out of the west ditch and smashed through the windshield, striking him, the report said.

He was taken by Tri-County Ambulance to Wadena for treatment, the report said. The driver, Scott Eugene Taylor, 51, of Menahga, Minn., wasn’t injured.

The turkey was dispatched after the accident, according to the Patrol.
