Walcott, N.D. - Defaced stop signs have been welcomed in one small town for five years.

One day in Walcott, the altered signs appeared, almost suddenly.

"When you do stop and look at them, you just kind of giggle and keep going," said Tara Braun, who works in Walcott.

The four stop signs in town have lyrics from different songs, dating from 1965 to the 1990s.

The signs have been getting light-hearted reactions from the moment they first appeared about five years ago.

"I think it's nice to have something funny to look at, rather than all the negative that you usually see around town," Braun said.

Out-of-town visitors admit this is a sight you can't see anywhere else.

"You smile when you see it," said Fargo resident Jon Bennett.

Law enforcement hasn't taken down the signs, although it is illegal to deface a stop sign.
